This was weightlifting legend Naim Suleymanoglu’s third-attempt snatch in his final European Weightlifting Championships: the year is 2000, the location is Sofia, Bulgaria, and this is the run-up to the Sydney Olympics, where Suleymanoglu was hoping to pocket an unprecedented fourth Olympic gold medal in weightlifting. After making his opener, 140 kg, Suleymanoglu missed 142.5 (an uncharacteristically small jump) on his second attempt, and then repeated on his third attempt—seen here.
Rest in peace, Pocket Hercules—many thanks for all the remarkable lifts and great memories! IronMind® | ©Randall J. Strossen #naim_suleymanoglu #weightlifting #sofia #olympics #thf #ewf #turkey
