Why do you cut hair? If you say because you "love what you do" put down the fucking koolaid you're drinking. For a lot of people this is how you pay your bills, provide for your family, and survive. All of those things are very serious. This industry is not a joke and should not be treated like a hobby or some rap video. Barbering and hairdressing is not a trend, it's a very important occupation. A few years ago when I started to look at hair as a profession (since I looked at it like a joke before) times began to change. Artists started standing up for their work. They started to throw away the gimmicks, and the bullshit. People started educating not because they wanted Instagram followers but because they wanted to create better people around them. Fast forward to now you can have an educator for just about anything, maybe even to wipe your own ass. Mens hair in particular is one of the highest grossing industries in business. Times change, and I'm happy to see such attention being brought to our craft don't get me wrong. Now more than ever we need to remember to promote honesty and cut the bullshit. We need to be professionals, not act professional....there is a difference. We don't need to be humble, but we need to know our worth and educate others on theirs. We don't need barber battles or hair shows, we need to actually know how to cut hair and make real money. Better yet, we need to figure out how to coexist. If you're not an educator don't feel left out even though situations make you feel like that these days because when I started.....I was an outcast too. The only way you become successful for the long run is to generate something authentic and different. To be honest with you I'm abandoning the educator title, which was the only title I still held on too. I'm not an educator, I'm just myself, and I'm happy/privileged to guide others into a path of their own and learn some hair cutting instead of a path that's watered down and shit on by sheep daily. I want even more success, and it starts with creating success around me.
