Armand de Brignac.
A fantastic visit and lunch with Alexandre to try the full range and a few oldies too!
Blanc de Blancs en Magnum rocked. It was an old blend. 2008, 006, 05 which showed some delicious evolution lined up against some fresh vegetal notes. A hint of candied toffee and this lovely citrus pith mid to late.
Blanc de Noirs Assemblage Two. I must confess I struggled with this wine a bit. Showing a touch too much development on the nose for me. The palate had great freshness but created a bit of a disconnect.
Blanc de Noirs Assemblage One was a step above. 2009, 08, 06. So much more seductive. Brioche, honey, great balance. Some generous toast notes along with strawberry on the mid.
Demi Sec. My secret favourite of the day! 2008, 07, 06. 33g/ltr. Touch of licquorice. I'm seduced by the sugar but it is so well balanced. You would never guess the sugar level.
We then went for lunch at the wonderful Le Millenaire in Reims. It is well worth a visit.
We enjoyed a very approachable and drinkable Gold magnum to start. 2012, 10, 09. 40/40/20 Chd/PN/M. Touch of toast with a nice balance.
Next up for the foie gras was the Demi Sec. This time a different blend. 2012, 10, 09. Brighter, more intense with good structure. It nailed the food pairing.
The Blanc de Blancs 2012, 10, 09 got lost a bit behind this but was nice, tight and linear.
We finished with the Rose 2012, 10, 09 with loads of cherry but I found myself returning to the Demi Sec especially with the Creme Brulee! I am a bit of a slut like that!
Thank you Pierre-Alexandre and Alexandre for a fantastic visit.
