As a reminder, our wedding event is coming up this Sunday, the 25th! In honour of this upcoming event, enjoy this wedding related post we made about a year ago. We often have interesting pieces come in and out of the store, but this veil was particularly interesting. A beautiful wedding veil, with an exciting backstory!
This wedding veil was made for a Spanish Princess sometime between the late 1800's and the early 1930's. Made entirely out of Belgian lace, the veil took 200 workers and over 3 years to complete. The veil measures 3 meters long, by 1 and a half meters wide and is designed to shape.
The Royal Ontario Museum examined, and did a special display on it in 1954. At that time it was assigned a value of $15,000.
Unfortunately, the Spanish wedding did not happen due to the upheaval created by The Spanish Revolution. This veil was gifted to a soldier during the Second World War as a token of appreciation from grateful Belgian residents. The soldier brought the veil home to Canada after the war. We had the pleasure of seeing this gorgeous piece of history today.
