"Thermally conscious designs are vital to the reliability of any design." Here are some things to consider during the design phases of PCB manufacturing: 1. For SMT pads in copper planes, the use of thermally relieved pads (spoke-and-wheel) is key. 2. Inspection via x-ray can be required and insufficient solder will result in rework of the component which in-turn introduces new risks. 3. Calculations for the appropriate number and width of thermal vias to transfer heat can result in pads dotted with vias.

One of our awesome co-op students, Hashim, created this machine as an innovative solution for testing circuit boards. The system uses gas springs and sliders to press the circuit board on the pins with an even distribution of force. His design drastically reduces the amount of time it takes to set up testing. #circuitboard #circuitboardtesting #circuitboards #innovation
