Have you ever heard of "Internal displacement" or "Internally Displaced Persons" (IDPs)? According to the Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement, IDPs are defined as "persons or groups of persons who have been forced or obliged to flee or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of or in order to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights or natural or human-made disasters, and who have not crossed an internationally recognized border." Did you know that more than 75 percent of the total number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) lived in only 10 countries, and that this number accounted for more than 30 million people?
The top 10 countries with the highest number of IDPs include #Colombia (7,25 million people), #Syria (6,33 million people), #Sudan (3,30 million people), #Iraq (3,03 million people), #Democratic Republic of Congo (2,23 million people), #Yemen (1,97 million people), #Nigeria (1,95 million people), #South Sudan (1,85 million people), #Ukraine (1,65 million people), and #Afghanistan (1,55 million people). #didyouknow #dataviz #datavisualization #infographics #IDP #humanrights
