@ewazlak and I met through a mutual friend ( @ejlw ) who knew our interests in technology, entrepreneurship, and intersectional feminism were aligned. Since meeting Emily, she has been a constant supporter of my work, life goals, and @prototypepgh 💖 This is especially meaningful because Emily isn't just a friend and supporter, she is also a female founder and role model. .
@shineregistry — Emily's company, is a CMU startup specifically focused on providing support for female entrepreneurs. The platform is setup like a bridal registry. As an entrepreneur, you have specific needs that are often not obvious to your supporters. As a woman, you may have a hard time asking for these needs. @ShineRegistry is a tool that connects people to resources in order to build capacity for women. Can think of a time when you didn't know how to ask for something? I certainly can. ShineRegistry is here to fix that problem.
It doesn't stop there. For anyone who knows Emily, you know she deeply cares about supporting women. She organizes Ladies Who Launch, a lunch series for for crowdsourcing solutions to entrepreneurial problems. She also works with #ProjectOlympus to host Coven meetings (co-working meetups for busy women to make business magic happen). In her spare time, @ewazlak also provides peer-mentoring for local entrepreneurs in Pittsburgh, New York, and DC. .
@shineregistry is a stellar example of the importance of female leadership in entrepreneurship and technology. I am so lucky to know Emily and can't thank her enough for the patience, vision, and leadership she brings to the Pittsburgh startup world. .
