These past few days I haven’t been feeling like myself. My gym sessions have been slacking and I was beginning to feel afraid I was losing focus if the bigger picture. To me the smaller picture is losing weight. I could be the biggest girl in the room and as long as I’m happy I’d be totally fine with it. My big picture is happiness, it’s what I’ve been striving for and it’s what I will achieve. For the last 4-5 years I’ve relied on everyone except for myself to be happy. But how is that fair to them? Or myself? The gym has taught me so many things about myself, one of them being that I’m capable of so much more than I ever dreamed. Lifting heavy is so empowering when you feel as if you lost control of your life. You control almost every aspect, you can push yourself beyond what you believed was your limits. The stronger I get physically the stronger I am mentally. I have SO much farther to go to be where I want to be mentally and this week really showed me that. But does that mean I’m going to give up? No mental gains are harder to achieve than physical gains. I’ve made strides towards recovery from depression and anxiety. Some days they creep back up but how I chose to handle those days is what’s helping define my future. Who’s ready to try another new exercise with me? 🙋🏾‍♀️ • • I call these Up-Down Planks. It’s an upper body dominant exercise, but you will feel it everywhere. Try to do 3 rounds at 30 seconds each round. The first way I did it is regular, the second way is the modified version. I suggest sticking with the regular version. Trust me! • • Give them a try, and let me know how it goes! I don’t know about you, but I have visions of Angela Bassett-looking arms this summer. It’s time to work on that NOW!

Arms like Michelle Obama, thighs like Serena Williams, and walk like Naomi Campbell. In my journey to the Miss Nevada USA 2018 stage, I'm so thankful for my fitness sponsor Empower Fitness and personal trainer Wendy Levra. In preparation, I finally took time to know what works for my body: how to eat and what workouts compliments my body type to produce the results I want. It was important for me to acknowledge that what works for another woman's beautiful body will not necessarily produce the results I desire for my body. The pageant is over now but I'm still trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle - balanced with some waffles and Popeyes chicken of course (that's how I maintain the glow). In the past couple years of having to train my body for a pageant or becoming a wildland firefighter, I remain in awe of the things it can do.
