Someone sent us a direct message asking a great question. The question was if love does what's best for others without regard for itself, what do we do when the people we love run over us? Letting people run over us is not a loving thing to do. If we let people we say we love run over us, we are teaching them to run over people, and in the end enabling their own destruction. The reasons we normally let people run over us is because we don't want to upset them, we don't want them upset with us, or we don't want to deal with the backlash of trying to help them stop being selfish. That is loving ourself not them. Or we can have boundaries where we say if you cross these boundaries in my life, I won't tolerate it because it hurts me. That is also loving ourself. But if we really love others, we tell them we love them too much to watch them do things that lead to their own destruction. Either way, we get protected. One way we protect ourself, which leads to our own destruction. The other way, we protect others and find ourself protected in the process by love and the truth. What would you be most likely to listen too? Someone telling you about their boundaries and what they won't tolerate, or someone telling you they love you too much to watch you live a selfish life? Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 #shieldsofstrength
