What can you do to help your acne?
Acne is a subject that sits close to my heart, a few years ago I suffered with severe cystic acne which I still have a few scars from today.
It’s an unfortunate time for a lot of teens and can also affect adults, luckily there are things you can do to help. -
Firstly it’s important to know that there isn’t 1 cause or cure for acne. Acne can be caused by stress (stress increases cortisol which can result in inflammation and acne), certain foods (dairy, refined carbohydrates and sugar), nutrient deficiencies, hormonal imbalances, poor immune system, imbalance of good and bad gut bacteria AND more....
A few tips you can try to reduce your acne include:
🥛 Removal of dairy - dairy consumption has been linked to the development of acne.
🍩 Reduce your sugar intake- sugar is inflammatory! Limit it as much as you can and stay away from processed and packaged foods.
💦 Other diet considerations include- increasing water to at least 3L a day, increasing fresh fruits and vegetables, and ensuring adequate protein (1.5 grams per kg of body weight a day). -
- 🏃🏽♀️Lifestyle considerations- Exercise 🤗 and make sure you get a sweat! this will help to detoxify the body. Also make sure you are getting a good nights rest, sleep is so important. -
- 💊Supplements- I recommend a good zinc supplement as well as a probiotic. -
It’s important to remember that everyone is different and everyone gets acne for different reasons. I recommend seeing a nutritionist who will be able to hone in on the underlying factors contributing to your acne. A nutritionist will also be able to give you an individual supplement regime with good quality products. Contact @better_than_bread to book in an appointment.
