Born Erin Issac Daniel to an Irish mother and an Indian Christian father in Lahore, the actress was given the name #Manorama after she played a character by that name in the 1941 film, Khazanchi. Manorama’s best though would come much later when she switched to playing character roles. She often played a tyrannical aunt or mother with a frown for a face and an angry rant up her sleeve. The woman with exaggerated eyelashes and expressions, was popularly known for roles like the comical tyrant aunt in 'Seeta Aur Geeta', 'Ek Phool Do Maali', 'Do Kaliyan' and 'Caravan'. Some of her other memorable films include Half Ticket, Dus Lakh, Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje, Sharda, Johar Mehmood in Hong Kong, Mujhe Jeene Do, Mehboob ki Menhdi, Bombay to Goa and Lawaaris. In the 90s she did a cameo in Mahesh Bhat's Junoon (1992). Her last movie was Deepa Mehta's Water (2005). The actress also acted in a few television serials later. Through her career she acted in over 150 films. She was married to Rajan Haksar, also an actor, and after partition of India in 1947 the couple shifted to Mumbai, where Raja became a producer, while Manorama reestablished her acting career. Manorama passed away on 15 February 2008 after a brief illness. Follow @bollywoodirect . . . . . . . . . . . . #bollywood #bollywoodirect #instabollywood

"When you study yoga, you are not only studying the teaching but you also study your resistance to the teaching" Our resistance keeps us from the depth of the teaching and also holds interesting information about ourselves! I am so grateful for having been able to attend the wonderful workshop of Manorama in Munich on Sunday! She is such an inspiration - steeped in the wisdom of the yogic teachings, an expert of the Sanskrit language, who chants in a way that gives me chills. She also lives and teaches how to have a spiritual life and a rich life apart from that. And all of that with a refreshing sense of humor. Thank you so much for your beautiful teachings, @manorama9
