People often use the word "snake" as an insult. Unfortunately those typically called snakes are most often the least deserving of the title. You might be confused so allow me to explain. I want to first clarify what snakes truly represent, and why this is an animal I have always connected with deeply.
Snakes are creatures of transformation; constantly shedding the skin they have outgrown, yet remaining the same creature. They are associated with medicine and wisdom. Popular traits associated with snakes include highly selective loyalty, self-preservation, grounding, and charm.
I'm guessing you're still not convinced due to the so called "negative" traits that the snake embodies, such as deception, danger, and evil. Keep in mind that your traits are only as evil as your use of them. For example, if you are in a situation where honesty could compromise your safety, it would be wise to deceive them. Additionally, it's always beneficial to be a dangerous opponent than a weak one.
I personally like to channel the wisdom of the snake when making decisions, its venom and deceptiveness when dealing with those who wish me harm, as well as for confidence in an unknown/potentially hostile environment. The charm when meeting new people, selective loyalty as a form of protection, and self-preservation as self-care. These traits also foster strategic thinking when it comes to big picture plans, as well as on a smaller scale. I've also learned to navigate smoothly and easily through complex and intricate situations, similarly to a snake gliding over treacherous terrain.
Hopefully I've convinced you, but if I haven't, I'm going to finish with this: snakes are used to symbolize kundalini awakening (opening chakras), and as guides for shamans exploring out of body experiences. If you're already spiritually inclined like me, the snake is also known to be a grounding creature, and can bring you back down to focus on the practical details of your life.
