First climb of the Old Cabin Classic Cross Country Mountain Bike Race! Up the pedestrian/bike path to go around the Wilder Ranch Historic Farm. My first race on the hardtail with no dropper seat post and clipped in shoes outside of CCCX-mtb and Sea Otter Classic (Fort Ord). Even though I raced the Beginner course, I was most definitely outside my comfort zone, felt challenged and had to give myself pep talks. Yes, I can do this!!! I think I might have placed better if I worked harder to pass during climbs instead of letting myself be stuck behind a slower climber. Most of the guys I passed on singletrack I passed because they pulled over and gave me the line. Only once did I ride off the singletrack into the bumpy grass to get past. I asked first, to be safe! I'd rather keep the rubber side down and not bump another rider or their bike.
Climbing fitness improving. Hooray! Or because hardtail. Not sure.
