Growing up/ living almost my entire life in Australia has been and still is an unbelievable blessing.
Adopted at 6 months old from Manila, The Philippines, I can finally say I’ve revisited my country of origin after 26 years.
It was only last year that I decided I wanted to know more about where I come from and even reach out to find information on my birth parents.
I wanted to know what they looked like, and where I get my personal traits from. I wanted to be around people who look like me and people I can identify with from an ethnic point of view.
I am and always have been an Australian citizen and I am so grateful for the privileged life I have been enabled to live here by my parents... Though 26 years is a long time to ignore where you came from and not have any sense of where you fit in, between your heritage culture and the society you grew up in.
Even after spending a short amount of time here in The Philippines, I have definitely learnt more about myself. I am more comfortable in my own skin, I am proud of who I am, and have now realised I don’t need to “fit in” no matter where I am in the world.
I do wish that my birth Mum could know who I have grown up to be, but I thank her where ever she is for giving me the opportunity I have had to live the way I do and have the best family I could ever dream of. 🙏🏾 #blessed #love #philippines #aussie #adopted #proud
