S P E A K ⛰ Public speaking and being awesome in social settings can be one of the most exciting and rewarding ways to communicate. It provides you with the opportunity to engage and deliver material important to you and to your teams, to share your findings and to present on all the things you are passionate about. It is your opportunity to add value.
That being said, public speaking can be anxiety-inducing and feel terrifying. It can affect your career in a negative way, have an unfortunate impact on your social life, and cripple your self-confidence.
I’ve read surveys time and time again that show people fear public speaking more than they fear death. I’ve seen public speaking rank as our number one phobia, even more so than heights, sickness, and serious money problems…what's going on here, people? Public speaking is something we can improve, feel confident about and in control of – and if we spend just a bit of time understanding and practicing it, we can master it.
The good thing is: just like almost everything in life, there are actual strategies you can use to make your public speaking experience easier, more fun and less stressful – no matter the audience, the topic or the content. If you understand your relationship to public speaking and you practice these strategies, you can significantly, and immediately, improve how you come across in public, the relationships you build and the risks you take.
So, I hope you are ready to roll up your sleeves: I am so excited to share with you everything I have learned after years of speaking in public for audiences around the world. #JosDirkxCOACHING
