#inst10 #ReGram @domzthompson: Four years ago, I was contacted by a producer at ABC news. They interviewed me for a controversial segment on veganism. At that time, there weren't very many vegan men with large accounts such as mine, speaking out about animal rights issues. At least not many I knew of or any that were as assertive as I was. There were maybe a handful of us on social media with a fairly large reach, posting graphic images and educating our online communities about the animal agriculture industry. In the interview they asked me a series of questions, and wanted to know my thoughts on the dairy industry. I stated simply, “The dairy industry is one large group of rapists and murderers. Why would anyone in their right mind want to support rapists and murderers?”. As many of you already know, I don’t hold back my thoughts. Especially when it comes to animals. In this scenario, my response was deemed as too raw. But is it “too raw” or “too real” when it’s based on facts? After all, shouldn’t the media promote transparency and honest journalism? My response took the producer off guard and because of this my interview never aired. In hindsight, I have no regrets about the interview. Absolutely none because I didn’t compromise who I am, a man of integrity. I spoke with conviction and passion. I simply cared more about telling the truth than telling a lie or not being true to who I am as a man. It’s because of this approach with life and activism that my account continued to grow organically. Also, the universe has given me many opportunities since then to speak up for animals. In summary, there is no fame or money in activism. As cliche as it may sound, it’s a dirty job. It truly is. But let me tell you, I’m in good fucking company. Oh yeah. Now more than ever, we have thousands upon thousands of activists worldwide, online and offline, causing disruption and having a positive impact. I think that is pretty damn amazing. We are growing and will continue to grow. I’m super proud of how strong this community has become.
