Cortisol is regularly used as a term in the health/medical industry. But what does the term cortisol mean? Cortisol is our stress hormone. Cortisol is produced from the adrenal glands. When our central nervous systems becomes alert and ready to take on a challenge, our adrenal glands respond with the production of cortisol. This production of cortisol can assist us to get hard jobs done and stay focused on the task ahead, but too much cortisol can prove to stress the body to an unhealthy state. We require cortisol, to deal with emotional stress and physical stress. Cortisol can over produce over time, when we put our bodies under constant stress. This stress can be from work or family pressures and physical pressures of illness and exercise. One of the most common complaints when people have high cortisol levels is not being able to sleep effectively at night. Certain things will trigger our cortisol levels to rise, such as caffeine and pre workouts. So the question is how do we maintain our cortisol levels at a healthy level? This week we decided to do a shock session and hit our old power routine. Well the muscles definitely got a shock with our leg routine. But am loving the camera angle on the left quad. #tranformationtuesday ✨ I always thought there was no reason to train my arms properly as they were always relatively slim and I was more focussed on my legs,bum and tum. My arms were also pretty weak but I didn’t really do any lifting day to day so thought I was fine🙈 Once I had my daughter my arms changed and muscles developed as I carried her around. I started training them properly for the first time as I wanted to see my arms look toned and strong but also feminine. What considerations do you make when choosing an exercise? - Well there should be plenty of things that go through your mind when trying to establish what exercises are best suited to you - We have always been told that one must Squat, Deadlift and Bench Press to see any return in the gym. However this is not always the case and for most is the wrong way to approach their journeys into the gym - We all have different structures and different starting abilities for instance, we aren't all able to deadlift off the floor safely. If for instance you have long femurs (thighs) and a short torso you may get more return using a rack or small blocks to get a better return - If you're starting out at the gym then a barbell back squat may not be your best for limitations such as weak hip flexors, tight tight upper back and/or unstable ankles, it would always be smarter to regress to a safer alternative to start out with than risk long term injury because you think it's a 'must' - To summarise my point there is NO exercise which MUST be done in the gym to get more progress. Some exercises will work muscles harder, such as a hip thrust for your glutes and cable row for your lats/rhomoids etc. So there are no perfect exercises just exercises don't perfectly with the correct tempo, intent and keeping within the persons active range - Those topics will be the theme of this week posts as tomorrow I'll be posting up on 'Tempo' and if we really need to follow it?

Woah!! The comparison is crazy! After loosing 100 lbs back in 2010, being at my leanest EVER weighing 116 lbs in 2012, to now looking bigger and stronger. It’s been such a roller coaster of a journey! Being so unhappy my entire childhood as a chubby kid, weighing 240 lbs at 21 was my limit. But yet, at my leanest, I would look at myself in the mirror and wished for curves. Yup, I still wasn’t happy! I’ve realized, we are our biggest critiques and we will always feel like we can do more, be more, accomplish more. I have set goals for myself and I plan on killing them! After several setbacks and bullshit... NO MORE!!! It’s time to continue transforming 💪🏻😈 No stopping now!
