It’s always a worry when your baby is “small” and “low on the centiles”. Every time the health visitor weighs her I hold my breath and hope she’s doing ok. I shouldn’t worry really, she was born early and just has a little catching up to do, that’s all. Still, Mums worry. It’s our job. At 7 and a bit months Zara is still not that into food. She’s breastfeeding well, but is not that into eating. We’re doing baby led weaning, so “food before 1 is just for fun”. Bella was huge at the same age, so when she took a while to get the hang of the whole food thing, I couldn’t have been more chilled about it. No one ever expressed concerns about how much she was eating. With Zara, however, I have had several people suggest that I might need to supplement BLW with purees.
I decided to ask our health visitor to weigh her regularly. Obviously if she wasn’t gaining sufficient weight I’d have to rethink her weaning.
So you can imagine my delight when she was weighed yesterday and she is now 15lb 6oz of loveliness! That may not sound like a lot, but while she’s remained on the 9th centile for height, she has moved from the 9th to just under the 25th for weight. She’s officially wider than she is long. I am over the moon. Thinking about it, I should have taken one look at those cheeks, and known I had no reason to worry.
